Dan & Rochelle: Both are native Floridians and avid waterlovers with a back ground in swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, SUP surfing, canoeing kayaking, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. They have a strong connection with the water and absolutely love to paddle-surf! Rochelle has a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Oceanography from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Rochelle and Dan are the proud parents of 3 great kids. Rochelle was a stay at home mom for 18 years before opening this business 7 years ago. Dan has been Stand up Paddling for 11 years and recently retired early from corporate life, to pursue this dream .
Our Start: It’s one of those “we started with a truck and a dream” type stories. Facts are, Coastal Paddle Boarding started as a mobile company that had a truck, trailer and 2 boards. In September, 2010 the storefront shop opened in Hobe Sound. In January of 2011 the company moved to a water front location at The Fish House Art Center in Port Salerno. This was a great move as the company is water-based, so where else should the company be, except as close to the water as possible!!! The shop expanded and added more boards, kayaks and acquired a pontoon boat. Then in February of 2013 the company relocated a stones throw away to a more visible location. The wet summer of 2016 dealt a devastating blow . We had to close because of polluted water from Lake Okeechobee. This was the second time in 4 years. Consequently, we permanently closed in Port Salerno in June.
In December of 2016 we reopened in Cortez, FL. at the Seafood Shack, located on a peninsula on Anna Maria Sound with Sarasota Bay on one side and Palma Sola Bay on the other. The waters are emerald green and beautiful with bountiful seagrasses and mangrove areas. Wildlife is plentiful, with lots of birds and dolphins are a common sight. Situated right on the water, is our custom made multi slip dock, specially designed for safe and easy launching of paddle boards and kayaks, as well as a beach to launch from. With Ample parking and easy launching.
The Growth: Many good things have happened since 2010, including the most current news. As of December 2016 we have opened our new location beside The Seafood Shack Grill & Bar at the Seafood Shack Marina. We have fantastic places to explore with multiple mangrove trails and sand bars full of sand dollars too. There are nesting Great Blue Herons to watch and very often dolphins are frolicking along side us. We have the Living Sandbar Tour and the FISH Preserve Tour that launch right from our dock.
Our little shop is now stocked with everything you need for a safe and fun time on the water. There are DiCaPac waterproof phone cases, Chums eyeglass holders, floating Vizers, Boozie Buckets( a really awesome cooler), t shirts, jewelry, toys, hand painted rocks and much more. Rochelle Neumann, founding member of Coastal Paddle Boarding, states “Safety of our customers is ALWAYS our primary concern.” We have a weather policy in place. If the wind is higher than 15mph we do not rent paddle boards. We will take people on guided tours in higher wind conditions. If lightening is within 20 miles or forecast during the time you are scheduled to be on the water we will postpone or cancel.
